EP // BRIEF 7 // SPOT METERING WEBSITE // AUDIENCE & APPROACH

Audience

The main audience for Spotmetering.com are users who love photographer and want to learn more about the camera. Therefore, there is no age range as anyone who owns a camera would be interesting in the books on offer from Spotmetering.com. We can predict the certain type of person who may venture on the site. People who have a good degree of knowledge of cameras and how they function. Spot metering is a feature of a DSLR camera, so it is a part the camera where some experience of the camera would be needed to understand.

Approach

The approach for the site is most importantly to push the books that are on offer. The main purpose of the site is to sell the book so why not make it obvious to the user? The user journey has to be designed in a specific way where the book is the first thing they see, reconstructing the information architecture so the user journey is fluid and understandable. Ensuring the user can quickly spot the book, navigate the book's information and check-out all within a few steps.

The other approach is to pay homage to the original website out of respect. I could go and change the whole website to make it look totally unrecognisable but keeping a link back to the old site would be respectful and not an insult to the original creator. This could be the colour scheme, certain background image or a certain style. This doesn't have to include elements which were responsible for the demise of the site in the first place. The main approach the site design and style is to establish a contemporary and minimal site with a consistent layout throughout. Taking the outdated site out of the 90's and into the 21st century. At every step of the way, the user experience must be at the core of every decision, making sure the user journey is as clear, fluid and efficient as possible to ensure the successful selling of the books.
