I had no real idea or direction of what I wanted the logo for 'Related' to be. However, to match the overall aesthetic of the UI the logo had to portray a modern and contemporary style. Pictured below are sketches of some logo ideas.
From these sketches, I further developed three ideas. The idea I wanted to portray within the logo was one of a connectivity and reliability. These are attributes that represent the game as a whole. The first logo idea is an abstract R and with the negative space forming three interconnected triangles. The 'R' represents the game title and the triangle represents the concept of the game through connections and relatedness. I decided against this idea. Once I put it into context the symbol didn't visually look right. It appeared unbalanced and sharp.
The second idea is type only. I decided to go with the typeface 'Circular'. With its rounded attributes and soft characteristics, the san-serif type represents a typeface that is modern, legible and friendly. All positive aspects when you want to maximise appeal. I decided against this idea as I wasn't totally happy with an only-type logo. It left a lot to be desired.
The third idea was the logo I decided to go with. It takes on a more unique approach with two 'R's'. One 'R' is uppercase and the other lowercase. This decision relates back to the theme of relatedness, as they are both different shapes but still related as they are both 'R's'. To strengthen this notion of connectivity the line you see also goes from one 'R' to the other. With all of the developed logo ideas, the colour scheme is minimal and only consists of one colour, white. White ensures maximum legibility and suitability against the dominant black.
