EP // BRIEF 4 // RELATED GAME // FEATURES & UI

Features within a game can often make a game more successful but having too many can cause the game to become confusing and overwhelming. You have to ensure that the user can understand and quickly identify the most important features that have the most impact on the game. Also, a build up of features will clutter the UI and just like that you end up losing a game that is modern and accessible.

Below are a list of feature and other parts of the UI that are important for the game:

This element will be visible to the user before they start the game. Briefly demonstrating how the game works in its basic form.  The game itself is already very easy to play but any new user would be oblivious at how to play, therefore this just ensures that no user is stuck from the start.

This feature takes the user straight to the 'Clues' section. This is a section where users can access mid-game to buy or use clues/cheats.

This highlighted section clearly signify to the user what artist they are starting with and the artist they must finish with.

This feature ensures all users, no matter their music knowledge can efficiently and joyfully play the game. The progress bar gives the user a clear indication of whether the user is progressing towards the allocated artist or not. It acts as a 'hot or cold' kind of reference.

The 4x4 grid where users can tap on any artist to progress onto the next set of the related artist. Green border indicates the selection.

The red border is the timer. By placing the timer around the edge of the game allows the UI to have more space making sure the minimal style is achieved.

Discs are the game's currency, which the user can use to purchase cheats, clues or hints. By using afictional object as currency and not actual '£' the user is more likely to purchase cheats. (see research blog post about this)

Available clues that the user can flick through. These include but aren't limited too:  added 5 seconds and five steps forward.

Premium clues can only be purchased by 'discs'. These clues are significantly more beneficial than a free clue. With free clues, the user may get 5 free seconds but with premium clue, they get 10 extra seconds.
