EP // BRIEF 9 // UP YER SLEEVE // FINAL SLEEVE

The final vinyl sleeve opens up metal music for everyone. The brief requires to not reveal the track or lyrics from the allocated track. Therefore, the final sleeve can grab people's attention with the conceptual and visual approach. With a familiar style the user's curiosity and attachment to the sleeve has been won, something that wouldn't happen if the sleeve portrayed a similar style to metal artwork. It allows people to see a different side to metal, by connecting with the message and emotional connection the sleeve will have a big impact to how the listener will receive the song when they first hear it. The user will look for meaning in the song but if they first heard the song without any connection to the album artwork they would no doubt instantly turn off. This was the main objective of the brief, to expose the genre of metal to people who wouldn't normally give metal music a chance.

By ensuring the overall design portrayed a modern and professional aesthetics, allows users who aren't familiar or interested in metal to be able to connect with the sleeve. It's the first impressions that count and from this initial grab, the concept works its magic. The minimal colour scheme of grey and white for the background links back to a modern style with the gold balloon representing the importance of 'hope' and how valuable it is to us. A realistic style ensures a visual appeal making the sleeve stand out amongst the rest.

The sleeve is in reference to the lyrics "Hope is a prison" from the song 'Gone with the wind' by Architects. The sleeve represents 'hope' as a balloon, a fragile and gentle object. The cage represents the prison, trapping and keeping 'hope' as a prisoner. Unfortunately 'hope' has lost, slowly deflating, letting out the last of its air and all that remain is was could have been.
