EP // BRIEF 10 // RESEARCH BRIEF // DICTATORS // SENSITIVE SUBJECT - APPROACH

This blog post discusses the subject of dictators as a sensitive issue for some people and how I need to ensure I am not offending people whilst not letting that affect my progress. The subject around dictatorships is a touchy subject for some, especially for those who have experienced some form of oppression from their home country. But also for people who get easily triggered about topics that include death, murder and horrific crimes which are totally understandable. But like myself, there are people who love topics around dictatorships and oppressive regimes. It's important to not feel like I have to censor my work to ensure no one can take offence because as soon as Hitler is shown then someone will instantly be offended.  The overall approach is education and informing people of what took place. No putting them on a peddle stall but to educate people about who these people are and what they did to millions of innocent people. The final resolution will also inform the reaction from people so it's vital to choose an appropriate avenue to go down.

As I've said, I'm doing this subject because It interests me a lot. I find it fascinating how these dictators could be so evil. I don't find them interesting because I admire them or think what they did was correct. It's more of my love for history, especially WW2 and Nazi Germany. Because some people may find the topic controversial I don't want that to be an excuse to censor my work and create something that is stripped down and boring. I want it to represent the oppressive nature of dictators, as a theme that runs through whatever I create. If it's a book then how can I portray the characteristics of a dictatorship such as control and oppression within a book, is it through imagery or selective design implementation?
