Throughout the entirety of the brief, I've enjoyed every minute. As a research brief, it was vital right from the beginning to choose a subject that was of interest to me; to choose a subject that I wouldn't care to spend a couple of hours researching about. This is exactly what I did, I spent hours watching videos about dictators and looking through a number of books to dig out any relevant information that could be deemed appropriate for the brief. The brief didn't seem like work to me due to my interest in the subject and I feel you can see that within my final resolutions. The biggest issue the brief through my way was understanding people's feelings and the approach to a subject. People are sensitive and researching dictators which include some of the evilest people in history can cause a few problems. It was important for me to not portray the dictators as heroes of some sort. It became crucial to understand why people felt sensitive and to try to avoid any upset. However, I didn't want to step over the line between being careful with what I produce and end up censoring my work in fear of upsetting someone. I didn't want to be so careful that my work turned into boring bog standard work. I wanted something quite impactful and striking but not crossing any boundaries. The brief was about educating and promoting a museum that exhibits this kind of subject. I wanted to transfer the fear and unpredictability that dictators are well known for within my work. This was the biggest thing I learnt, learning the fine balance between being sensitive and censorship.
Another thing the brief taught me was that I have a hidden fascination for contemporary museum books and publications. Throughout the three years, I've always created a number of publications that resemble what you would find in a contemporary museum. I love the modern and minimal style with the dominance of grey. With this In mind, I've decided to contact Topographie Terror in Berlin to see if I could produce any publications or promotional material for the museum. Overall, I've enjoyed everything about the brief. I managed to finish on time and create work that I was extremely proud of, especially the publication! I think that's the best publication I've ever produced.
